St. Anthony on the Desert Worship & Music
Worship and Music
The title from a book on Episcopal liturgy Praying Shapes Believing describes the essence of what it means to be an Episcopalian. We are shaped in our faith and beliefs when we gather together in prayer and worship to God. The services offered in the Book of Common Prayer are grounded in historical tradition and scripture. Our worship tells the story of God and God’s people through an intentional movement both within the structure of the service and through the cycle of the church year. Our prayers and music are designed to draw us into the mystery of God and also to prepare and equip us to share something of this mystery with others.
WEEKLY SERVICES
8 am Sunday Morning – Are you an early riser? Join us for a more intimate service of Holy Eucharist with organ and cantor.
10 am Sunday Morning – This service time meets the needs of many families as we offer a staffed nursery as well as programs for children and youth. The Holy Eucharist is celebrated with gifted musical support from our various choirs.
Third Sunday – As the name suggests on the Third Sunday of each month (September through May) our 10 am service provides a special emphasis on children and youth. A bit more abbreviated liturgy incorporates a children’s sermon time and showcases our talented Chalice Players as they provide a dramatic rendering of our scripture stories.
Wednesday Healing Service – This noon day service combines prayers for healing with a celebration of the Eucharistic. This intimate service is held in our Chapel of St. Luke the Physician. Laying on of hands is offered for those seeking healing.
Choirs
Did you know that the largest choir in the church is the congregation? When we sing together, we create an important sense of community as we offer our praise to God. Everyone who worships at St. Anthony is technically a member of the congregational choir. However, if you are looking for an even greater leadership role, consider taking it to the next level and become a part of one of our choirs.
At St. Anthony on the Desert, there are many opportunities for you to be part of the music ministry…
The Bell Choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 6-6:45 p.m. and is open to Middle School youth to adults. Basic knowledge of note reading is required.
The Adult Choir is open to high school age to adults and sings at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service and rehearses on Wednesdays from 7-8:30 p.m.
Our Youth Choir (grades 5-10) sings at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service on the third Sunday of each month. Rehearsals are Wednesdays 4:45-5:30 p.m. The Children's Choir (grades K-4) sings once a month at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service and rehearses on Sundays at 9 a.m.
