Global outreach - rwanda

Our mission is to focus on what the St. Anthony community can do to end extreme poverty in support of the Millennium Development goals. After a vision trip to Kenya and Rwanda, St. Anthony on the Desert provided the seed money necessary to establish a preschool center in the Gakenke district of Rwanda. A second preschool in Bushoka was funded and opened in the spring of 2011 with 147 children and three teachers. This preschool provides physical and spiritual nutrition for children 2-5 years old while their parents either work or apply for work.

The preschools are held at an Anglican churches in the Anglican dioecese of Shyira. The parents pay an equivalent of $1 U.S. per month, and the preschools are expected to be self-sufficient within 18 months. In addition to this we have also assisted in a cow breeding project to provide a means for self sufficiency.

The outreach grant for 2014 provided scholarships for ten women to study at Muhabura Integrated Polytechnic College in multiple areas that provide the recipients skills and education otherwise unavailable to them to support their families.
