On the Way to Jerusalem

Saint Anthony on the Desert has started On the Way to Jerusalem, and we will continue until we arrive at our destination. On the Way to Jerusalem is a virtual journey from Saint Anthony on the Desert to Jerusalem that encourages us (walkers, runners, wheelers, worshipers, cyclers, gardeners, prayers) to increase physical activity, spiritual growth, and cultural awareness through a virtual tour to Jerusalem.
Walking was first mentioned in the Bible, “… heard the sound of the Lord God while walking in the garden in the cool of the day. “ (Gen 3:8) It was while walking in the garden that God typically spoke to God’s created. How meaningful to walk through our neighborhoods, parks, and communities while talking to our Creator, the One who knows us best!
Anyone can participate regardless of age, physical fitness level, or spiritual grounding. All types of activity will count, even day—to—day walking around. The distance from our Saint Anthony campus to Jerusalem, Israel is 7,458 miles, including the Atlantic Ocean! Beginning on Ash Wednesday, we will be inviting our community to reach Jerusalem during the Easter season.
You can log your mileage, steps, and/or time weekly here. You may also drop your log sheet in the On the Way to Jerusalem container in the narthex (lobby) of the church on Sundays or the office on M-Th 10a-3p)
Information will include your name, activity completed (walking, running, biking, steps, physical activity-workout, spiritual practice, or other), total mileage, total steps, and/or total time. Steps and time will be converted to miles by the Walking to Jerusalem ministry team.
Our community can check the map in the narthex (lobby) of the church for our progress! Below is a list of frequently asked questions and information. You may have already been invited if you utilize the social network of Facebook. If you do, and you weren’t—you can join here: Saint Anthony on Facebook. If you have any further questions, or if you’re ready to participate, please contact Canon Holly Herring at Canon Holly. Blessings!
