Men of St. Anthony
(Mosa)
East Valley Men's Center
Another very nice note from the East Valley Men’s Center was received thanking us for all the support that St. Anthony on the Desert provides to their homeless men. Serving food at the Men’s Center is one of the more rewarding opportunities we have to do God’s work here on earth. Seeing the gratitude on the faces of the homeless men when handed a plate of hot food gives one a high that is hard to produce elsewhere. These men are working to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, and an outstretched hand really makes their day. Many parishioners have been able to experience this first hand through MOSA and the other ministries that regularly support this giving. Last year we served 2000 meals there, and this year the number will grow again.
But there is an increasing level of support that goes beyond those who provide and serve the meals directly. This is coming from parishioners who for various reasons are not able to take a direct part in providing the food so have been providing financial support through a regular giving program, and it is to these that this special thanks is directed. The Men of St Anthony serve a ham and beans dinner at the Center every 3 or 4 weeks, and this would stretch our volunteer budget beyond its breaking point if were it not for the generous donations from the parish at large. The “outstretched hand” with a plate of food in it represents just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the support group at St. Anthony. The providers of food and dollars working behind this hand make it all possible, and the gratitude flows to you from every level. Thank you for all that you do.

(Editor's note)
Our men's group doesn't (won't) ask for help very often in providing the ham dinners that they serve to the residents of the East Valley Men's Center. They have ten dinners planned in the future, and the cost of hams alone is between $125 and $135 per dinner. If you would like to help our men out, consider making a donation of any amount. Put "MOSA:" on the memo line of your check, mail to the church or drop in the offering plate on Sunday.
